The purpose of this ceremony is to bring Yahweh out from where he hides in the hearts of his devotees and work to liberate him from his mad belief that he is the only god, creator of the universe.

Throughout the ceremony, we address god Yahweh directly and with love and honor, and we expose him to experience which we wish to be convincing, warm and welcome. It is an experience, however, in which Yahweh cannot continue to participate unless he drops his madness and accepts his place as one player among many -- not the least of those, but neither the greatest.

The ceremony is divided into 8 sections, each of which has a role in the healing.

I. A call to the inspired We call forth those in whose hearts Yahweh has assumed dominion, and invite them to release him, to participate in our ceremony.
II. Invocation We call on Yahweh directly, to leave the hearts in which is is sequestered, and join our company.
III. Welcome We welcome Yahweh to our company, and promise him peace and healing.
IV. Offering We offer songs and stories to our guest, to entertain him and to help him understand this brood of humans he has sired.
V. The sharing of the blessings We share a ceremonial meal with Yahweh and our other guests, to help all present understand the deep relatedness of all blessing.
VI. Remembering We share with Yahweh and all gods present our remembrances of those we love, who are now gone, and our grief at their going.
VII. Informing Yahweh In the heart of the healing, we present the god with a vision of the universe both truer and more satisfying than the vision supplied by his madness.
VIII. Parting Every parting poses choices, and we give Yahweh his choice: to stay out with us, in peace and the comfort his age deserves, or to retreat to the hearts where he can be alone and dominate.

This is a long ceremony, with a ceremonial meal in the center, and it could involve a lot of commotion. A rather general set of staging directions have been prepared that might help you envision how it works in practice.

Know that all this is just a working script. Drop what you don't like; punch up what resonates with your meeting. Improvise.

Without further ado...

All: Release him, release the terrible god, ruler of all.
Release him, release him to be one with us.

One: Do you hold Yahweh in your heart?
All: Come forth, come forth among us.
One: Do your enemies become his enemies, so you may only love them as abstractions but must hate their damned souls every waking minute?

Release him, release him to be one with us.

One: Do you hold Yahweh in your heart?
All: Come forth, come forth among us.

One: Do you hold Yahweh in your heart?
All: Come forth, come forth among us.

One: Be at peace in our presence, god Yahweh. Lay down your spear of righteous fury.

IV. Offering Here Topclear pictureUpclear pictureDown
clear picture
One: Yahweh, god, take delight in our presence
All: Yahweh, guest, accept these gifts.
One: Yahweh, god, let us sing for you; hear how Harmony informs these airs.
All: We honor Harmony, god. Let our voices, informed by Harmony, honor Yahweh.
Here we would have a song, simple or deep, from some tradition of exuberance and toleration, celebrating something of the divine.

One: Yahweh, god, find joy in our presence
All: Yahweh, guest, accept these gifts.
One: Yahweh, god, let us dance for you; see how Time informs our steps.
All: We honor Time, god. Let our steps, informed by Time, honor Yahweh.
Here we would have dancing, to spirited rhythms or to subtler scores expressing joy or grief or deep delight or telling stories of our time

One: Yahweh, god, be uplifted in our presence
All: Yahweh, guest, accept these gifts.
One: Yahweh, god, let us read to you from the works of our sages; hear how Wisdom informs these words.
All: We honor Wisdom, god. Let our words, informed by Wisdom, inform god Yahweh and honor him.
Here we would repeat the passing words of those -- poets and philosophers, saints and skeptics -- who can help Yahweh and his awed hosts expand their vision of the universe to include divine Humanity

One: Yahweh, god, find companions in our presence
All: Yahweh, guest, accept these gifts.
One: Yahweh, god, let us introduce you to the gods who inform our lives.
All: We honor others, god Yahweh. Let the gods who inform our human lives inform god Yahweh and honor him.
Here some might present brief testimony of the divinities informing their lives -- gods, to be sure, with gurus and divine persons, traditions and ideals, all enlightening notions.

One: Yahweh, god, be nourished in our presence.
All: Yahweh, guest, take the place of honor at our table.
Yahweh, god and guest, share our human blessings.

V. The sharing of the blessings Here Topclear pictureUpclear pictureDown
clear picture
Here we would have a ceremonial meal, as simple as bread and water, or as elaborate as a seven course banquet. Throughout the meal, as each new course is introduced, let the company join in open-handed accepting of the blessing, thus.
One: Here is water.
One: With open hand and open heart, we accept the Water's blessing, so that our bodily thirst may be slaked, and we may know the fluid nature of our birth and of our destinies.
All: Yahweh, guest, with open hand we share with you the blessing of god Water.

One: Here is bread.
One: With open hand and open heart, we accept the blessing of the Bread, so that our bodies may be nourished, and we may know that we are one with the deep and spinning earth, created from her stuff and sustained as humans by our timely labor at the harvest and the hearth.
All: Yahweh, guest, with open hand we share with you the blessing of god Bread.

One: Here is wine.
One: With open hand and open heart, we accept the blessing of the Wine, so that our spirits may be lifted, and we may know by tasting it the blended warmth of ancient things: hillsides risen from old ocean and earth's dark fire and drenched in sun for ages; the complicated alchemy of fermentation, half as old as life itself; the vintner's art, as old as humankind.
All: Yahweh, guest, with open hand we share with you the blessing of god Wine.

One: Here is meat.
One: With open hand and open heart, we accept the blessing of the Meat, so that our bodies may be strengthened, and we must know that life depends on life; that we are one with all generated beings, and their fate will be ours; that all share husbandry of those we take as human food, and each must answer for their care.
All: Yahweh, guest, with open hand we share with you the blessing of god Meat.

One: Here is harvest from our orchards and gardens.
One: With open hand and open heart, we accept the blessing of the Harvest, so that our lives may be fruitful, and we may know besides the secret dances of fertility and germination and growth, the careful ways and constant labor that only will insure abundance in our human lives.
All: Yahweh, guest, with open hand we share with you the blessing of god Harvest.

One: Here are sweets for dessert.
One: With open hand and open heart, we accept the blessing of the Sweets, so that we may taste pleasure and know that life is not all serious and hard, and all that ends with a smile ends well, as our meal ends with dessert.
All: Yahweh, guest, with open hand we share with you the blessing of god Sweets.

VI. Remembering Here Topclear pictureUpclear pictureDown
clear picture
One: Here we find ourselves, well-nourished and well-blessed, in open-handed communion with our gods, our friends and family. It is a time for reflection and remembrance.
One: God Death, you who are honest above all, great clarifier, great simplifier of Life's complexities, help us now; inform us with the names of those whom you have claimed for your realm.
All: Let us remember those who have gone with Death, and reflect upon the goodness of their lives, that they have left with us.
Any congregant may now step forward to remember one who has died, with a brief remembrance. That may take any form but it would typically begin "I wish to remember..." and someone's name, and then a few words to say how that person has informed the speaker's life. The congregation will respond thus:
All: Yahweh, gods, share our grief.
  Yahweh, gods, share our memories.
Yahweh, gods, know what a grievous thing this human life may be, with all your blessings.

VII. Informing Yahweh Here Topclear pictureUpclear pictureDown
clear picture
One: Now, with those we have loved vivid in our minds, we turn to what follows.
One: Yahweh, honored guest, we hope you have found joy and sustenance in our company.
All: Yahweh, god, where will we go from here?
One: Yahweh, god and guest, you are most ancient.
All: The world has changed since you were young.
One: You were king in those ancient days.
All: There are few kings now, Yahweh, and theirs is not the glory that was yours so long ago.
One: Yahweh, god and guest, you were mightiest of all.
All: The world has changed since you were young.
One: In ancient days, you went to war with demons.
All: The demons are with us still, Yahweh. War only strengthens them.
One: Yahweh, god and guest, you are most dangerous.
All: The world has changed since you were young.
One: You terrified multitudes and demanded sacrifice in ancient times.
All: Today, we see our kinfolk kill and die, still inflamed by your terrific love and solitary rage. Yahweh, god, know that it must not be this way.
One: Yahweh, god and guest, in your youth you fathered heros.
All: The world has changed since you were young.
One: You were father, and your word was law. Without you, men believed in ancient times, there would be no law.
All: We know more now, god Yahweh, than we knew back then, know more of law and of our origins and heritage.
One: We are no longer bound by what we must believe, but we are free to learn whatever might be learned, free to know in all the many ways of knowing.

One: Now, Yahweh, god and guest, Yahweh, father, hear what we have learned; hear what we have come to know.
One: As you are our father, Yahweh, and we your creation, so also you were born into our realm, glorious creation of the human spirit.
All: Yahweh, god, know this: we are all children of Humanity.
One: Before we were this family of gods and humankind, father Yahweh, know that Earth labored long, with fire and flood and fierce contest of wills, preparing our way.
All: Yahweh, god, know this: we are all children of Earth.
One: Improbable as it must appear, father Yahweh, we have learned that this earth and all earth's children are the brood of a universe patient beyond belief, vast beyond comprehension, its simplest truth all time and space.
All: Yahweh, god, know this: we are all children of this vast and brooding Universe.

One: Beyond that, father Yahweh, know what must be.
All: Yahweh, god, be informed by god Humanity.
All: Yahweh, god, be informed by god Earth.
All: Yahweh, god, be informed by the simple truth of the Universe.
One: Informed by these, most ancient father, know the triple ancestor of all that ever was, thrice-flaming seed of each new moment, our deepest unity:
All: We are all children of Chance.
All: We are all Children of Purpose.
All: We are all Children of Imagination.
One: Let us pause for a moment in silence to consider our lineage.

VIII. Parting Here Topclear pictureUp
clear picture
One: It is time to part.
One: God Time, you who are only inexorable, you who have placed us here today, help us now; inform us with your perfect blissful indifference to what will be tomorrow, and show us how we are free in consequence to make tomorrow what we will.
One: Let us consider, every one of us, gods and humankind, how we might make tomorrow, separate or together. As we prepare to take our leave, let us consider, where will we go from here?
One: Yahweh, guest, god, father, you are one with us.
All: You may stay with us.
One: For we remain together, even when we part.
All: Or you may leave the way you came, and stay alone.
One: If you choose to stay with us, each one would take just part of you, to temper your rage.
All: We would share with you our human joys and sorrows.
One: In each one's communion with all others, gods and humankind, you must never be lonely.
One: Yahweh, father, you are old. Come live with those of us, your children, who would share with you our human lives.
All: Let us help you find the peace your age deserves.
One: But if you choose to take your sword and shield and go, we will not oppose you but with open hand wish you godspeed on your journey and welcome back on your return.
One: And so with one another.
All: Godspeed on your journey; and welcome back on your return.
